Psychiatry PH is the digital portal and premium mental health initiative of Dr. Justin S. Aquino.

Dr. Justin Aquino is a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist based in the Philippines. His private practice focuses on adolescent, adult, and geriatric clients, for whom he offers specialized mental healthcare services, involving pharmacotherapy (medication-based therapy) and psychotherapy, with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. His considerable professional experience has allowed him to treat a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, mood disorders (depression and mania), OCD, schizophrenia, sleep disorders, ADHD, delirium, and neurocognitive disorders. Among other specializations, Dr. Aquino provides support for gender issues and the full spectrum of areligious (i.e., atheist, agnostic, apostate, secularist, humanist, etc.) issues.

Background

Dr. Aquino graduated with honors from the Ateneo de Manila University’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology program, and earned his medical degree at the University of the East Medical Center. He completed his internship training at the Makati Medical Center, and subsequently pursued his residency training under the Makati Medical Center’s Section of Psychiatry, serving as its chief resident physician in his final year. He is a board-certified diplomate of the Philippine Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Aquino completed his training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) under the specialty’s leading proponent, the Beck Institute, and received additional training in Global Health Policy and Advocacy from the University of Washington. He has given numerous talks and lectures on a wide variety of topics surrounding mental health, including depression & suicide, anger management, toxic masculinity, applied adult attachment theory, the biology of the mind, and how Religion adversely impacts mental health.

Dr. Aquino is a secular humanist and atheist, and understands that true mental well-being need not resort to any supernatural phenomena or pseudoscientific claims. Beyond Mental Health, his other advocacies include scientific literacy, humanism, secularism, atheism, evidence-based medicine, and animal welfare. Dr. Aquino’s other professional interests include existential psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, palliative psychiatry, neuropsychoanalysis, and evolutionary psychiatry.
